Habit Stacking: 127 Small Changes to Improve Your Health, Wealth, and Happiness Kindle Edition
Master Your Goals, Improve Your Life, or Overcome a Major Obstacle -- One Small Habit at a Time
Imagine what life would be like if you started every morning with small actions that created a chain reaction of positive benefits throughout your life. You eat a healthy breakfast, have a great conversation with your loved ones, and then begin your workday focusing on the important tasks. Then, throughout the day, you complete other habits that positively impact your top goals. You’d probably feel more fulfilled, get more accomplished, and have a better direction for your career.
All of this is possible when you add DOZENS of small changes to your daily routine. These habits don’t require much effort. In fact, most of these habits ONLY take five minutes or less to complete. And all this can be done when you follow a strategy known as "Habit Stacking."
One Routine + Multiple Habits = Habit Stacking
We all know it's not easy to add multiple new habits to your day. But what you might not realize is it's fairly easy to build a single new routine. The essence of habit stacking is to take a series of small changes and create a ritual that you follow on a daily basis.
Habit stacking works because you eliminate the stress of trying to change too many things at once. Your goal is to simply focus on a single routine that only takes about 15 to 30 minutes to complete. Within this routine is a series of actions (or small changes). All you have to do is to create a checklist and follow it every single day.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2017This book does not say anything that has not been said before. But Scott says it in a way that is familiar to us. Easy to grasp. Meaningul. And therefore it can have a really significant impact on our lives. Most of us are not great entrepreneurs or geniuses. We are "just a guy" that seeks to make the most of our lives, enjoy it and share the joy of it with our family and friends. This book is for us, most of us. And of course, also for great entrepreneurs and geniuses.
The most important lesson I learned from this book is to order my daily mini chores in piles that take about half an hour, ending with one of my keystone habits. That was my biggest "aha moment": to end up with an important habit like working out, doing my most difficult or important task of the day, etc.
There is a great little change that I am adding to my life thanks to this book: take my ordinary daily tasks and stack them in the right order and time of day, sometimes adding one or two tasks that I have not thought of before. This has helped me make a great change: I start and close every moment of my day doing what is most important to be productive and have a clear mind. I have 6 stacks, 2 for every moment of my day: before work, work, after work. My previous efforts to take control of my life are very easy to handle now. I'm getting more results with the tools I've been using for a while (Getting Things Done, Bullet Journal, Konmari method, etcetera).
I have not finished reading the list of 127 habits, but I think the concept of stacking habits and the advice that Scott gives to make it more fruitful are useful even if anyone is only going to take his or her daily tasks and order them in a new way, more fluent and more productive. There is no need to incorporate new habits to improve your life using this book. But surely I am taking more than one of the 127 habits to add even more value to my life. Thank you!

- Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2017Steve has nailed the concept in this interesting and comprehensive book about improving your life experience with the acquisition of some very beneficial habits, easily incorporated with his methods. He explains very clearly, and has a real enthusiasm for life skills. The power of small...that's a strong and encouraging line! Small new habits are cleverly linked to some you already have, in manageable "stacks". He explains the psychology behind lack of motivation, or lack of remembering, and then exactly how to make effective habit stacks for yourself. Initially it takes a bit of thought and sorting out to do this, but with a little time, some of his 127 stackable habits could be permanently making a difference in your life.
I realised I already do this to some extent, as many of us may do. And a lot of the suggestions are common sense - we know, but do we always do? Steve can help with that. I loved the "done" list, and the habit categories are separated, so going back to read again was easy. I would highly recommend this book as a useful, life enhancing read. Thanks, Steve.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2024We spend most of our lives on autopilot, this book gives you the tools to hit the reset button, to adopt healthier habits. The big takeaway is that you can bunch behaviors, strategically placing the most important ones, so that you will always get to them.
The book offers ways to incorporate over a hundred different habits to do everything from become more efficient at work to eat healthier, more nutritious meals. What really makes this book stand out, in my opinion, is the nine examples of habit stacking routines provided near the end. This really helps since it lays out the implementation of the information being provided in a concrete way.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2017The book does contain some interesting information such as how to establish habits in a systematic manner and some apps to support the formation of habits. However, my impression is that the ideas presented could be easily summarized within two or three pages; and actually are, at the back of the book. Because I am familiar with how to form habits, it felt as though the author was perhaps attempting to flesh out core ideas into a book length.
Overall, I would recommend this book to people who are looking for a basic framework on how to build habits in a progressive manner across different areas of life. If that sounds familiar or rudimentary, I would look elsewhere for ideas; perhaps on his website for additional material.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2017Yes, I know that I am referencing the Eye of the Tiger song by Survivor yet this kindlebook has motivated/encouraged me to use what I am going through in my career life as an opportunity to refine my weight loss goals (kind of how hearing the Eye of the Tiger song puts me in a hopeful mood). My intent to make the best of my increased and recent free time to step up my game in my walking goals has indirectly influenced my kindlebook purchase of Habit Stacking: 127 Small Changes to Improve Your Health, Wealth, and Happiness by S.J. Scott. Some of the transformative changes referenced in this kindlebook; pinpointing the top five most important goals, thinking of a new skill to master andor volunteer opportunity, writing a freedom journal, different apps and websites to use, focusing on small wins, and more.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2018Great book so far! I am three quarters of the way thru it. I must say this is the second book I have purchased and Steve Scott overdelivers in a huge way. I have purchased my fair share of e books and they weren't as thorough. Steve inspired me to write my own e book and I am using this book to build positive habits Of my own. Get this book if you want to build better habits, you owe it to yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Una edición actualizada de un librito genial
Ya tenía la primera versión de este libro, pero merece mucho la pena esta versión mejorada. Scott coge lo mejor de los diferentes estudios sobre hábitos y enseña a implementarlos dentro de la vida cotidiana. Muy recomendable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of specific examples, balanced with explanation, personal anecdotes and ideas
The framework for habit stacking is simple. Since building new habits isn't always easy, you stack a few small habits together into a single routine, so that you basically only need to build "one" new habit, and from there, one habit leads into the next, stacking one upon the other.
This looks like an updated edition of the old book. I didn't read the old edition, but the author explains this one goes into more detail and explains some of the small habits that, in the previous edition, struck readers as too simple. There are also more habits included (looking at the titles, you can see that while the old edition includes 97 small changes, this one includes 127).
The book is broken down into twelve sections (which are each closer in length to a chapter than typical "part" or "section"):
• An introduction section
• A few sections about goals and some of the theory and psychology for habit stacking, as well as how to get started
• Seven sections for the 127 small changes, which are broken up into categories: career, finance, health, leisure, organization, relationships, spiritual habits
• A final section with few sample "stacks."
The book is well-structured and has a lot of specific, crunchy ideas. For example, beyond the specific small changes, there are specific prompts and questions to help you identify which habits would benefit you most. There are lists of other examples. Lists of steps to do X, to do Y, and so on and so forth.
